Land Rover series 3 lightweight petrol 2 L hardtop 1971 #148
This eye-catching example of the sought-after petrol lightweight is one of the 3rd iteration of the series.
Largely original, this vehicle was used as an airfield safety vehicle for the latter years of its life.
Starts and runs beautifully, and carefully maintained for reliability, it benefited a sheltered life being used in association Shotton’s renowned Parachute club skydiving plane.
As a later iteration of the model it benefits from the steering column mounted ignition switch.
The vehicle is also fitted with the desirable original dash-mounted electric heater.
The vehicle was also fitted with a 240 V socket which can be seen the photos and which served to power and charge airplane batteries and starter motor.
The vehicle shows a mileage of 71,000 miles.
The chassis benefits from having a replacement rear cross member but will require interventions in the usual places such as on the outriggers, but the vehicle is in genuine and authentic condition.

This vehicle’s sister car, a 109 petrol pickup with soft top is also currently available, and would make an excellent set to a collector, particularly given the interesting provenance of the vehicle.
