Land Rover Series 1 86 inch 1955 Ex RAF Police 4×4 Petrol. Exceptional Stock 217
This exceptionally beautiful example manufactured October 1955 as dated on radiator and entered service in 1955 and was deregistered in the Fiscal Year 1964 to 1965.It was sold at auction and entered civilian ownership.
Hand repainted in cream when purchased from a gentleman in 2010 who had owned it since 1988, further research into the origins because of its unusual features such as split rim wheels, trailer plug and the light over the diff, revealed its highly unusual military history.
The original blue paint found on the cross member combined with the discovery discovered the word RAF followed by a set of numbers whilst treating the bonnet with Nitro Morse to remove the cream paint and the passenger instructions on the passenger door were further clues.
In as close to original as I could get it, but has received a few tasteful modifications for reliability purposes (brakes, stainless steel exhaust, wiring loom has been replaced with a reproduction, modern day/up-to-date reproduction, original specification wiring loom, anti-shatter toughened glass windscreen, all stainless steel screws, nut & bolts)
All original chassis, bulkhead & cross member
The bulkhead still retains the original circles pressed into the kick plates from the factory, are in themselves a rarity.

The engine has been rebuilt to a high standard, with 4 new genuine LR old stock pistons and rings with the bores remaining standard but honed to accept new parts.
crank shaft had a 10 thou grind to remove witness/scratch marks to retain good oil pressure, valve seats re-cut and all new valves, again genuine LR old stock. Fitted with the original radiator & core which is extremely rare. A new genuine LR old stock water pump, and as a testmant to its condition the engine now no longer uses oil or water between servicing.
Gearbox refitted and all original other than a few seals and gaskets that were changed.
Axles: had new seals, slave cylinders & swivel balls, all genuine LR old stock.
Bodywork: front wings are original, remanufactured to original specification door skins with original Perspex sliding windows. The rear tub was replaced the floor load bearing were replaced . The vehicle is fitted with the original tailgate. All galvanised caps and frames have been full refurbished.

The vehicle is supplied with its’ Heritage Certificate, all receipts, old blue V5 from previous owner, period jack with wooden handle, tool roll complete with period tools some genuine Rover) as well as correct workshop and operator manual.
Full enjoyment on the rally scene, some RAF uniforms & hats, for a good novelty value when out and about in her.
Done many miles since restoration completed, including driving it back and forth to work for 6 months. Has starred in many local shows.
